SUMMARY

In the last few weeks I have been dealing with a lot of different things on the topic of learning and education. I have to say that I have learned a lot of new things and also about things that I didn't feel were real.

First of all, I found out that the purpose of our education is to prepare us for our future life. Since then, I no longer question the meaning of what I have learned so often, but try to somehow process it for myself and take it with me. Because you never know. Maybe things like that can help you some day.

Next, I researched different school systems and their advantages and disadvantages.  I found out that probably the most boring and exhausting school system is the most common one. Compulsory schooling. It is actually exactly the same school system that exists in Austria.  After that, however, I got involved with very exciting, even very unusual types of schools. Homeschooling, unschooling and worldschooling. I found homeschooling and unschooling very interesting, but worldschooling excited me, so to speak.  The idea alone that you learn the really important things in life when you learn to deal with people fascinated me.

After that I studied the achievement gap in the different countries. Unfortunately, I learned that this gap is still very large in many countries of the world and is characterised by many prejudices. Thank God there are many organisations that are trying everything to close this gap.

Finally, I dealt with the forms of learning of the future. I found out that in the future, much more will take place via the internet, digital platforms and video conferencing. I also found out that in the future, a lot of learning will take place via artificial intelligence, because it saves you a lot of effort and time.

I must say that I learned a lot of helpful things through these tasks. Now, when things don't go well, I try to orientate myself on things that I have learned through this project. For example, I try to think more often about the concept of world and unschooling. I try to organise things in such a way that I inform myself about the things that interest me the most but don't neglect the things that are perhaps not so interesting for me. Furthermore, I always try to inform myself a little before I form an opinion about a person.

Personally, I think these open works are very good for us and I hope we do them more often in the future.

Covid – A student’s dream or educational disaster?

As we surely all have understood by now the past year has been drastically different due to the global pandemic, for adults as well as for students. In this blog post I will show you the viewpoint of an affected student from Austria. First of all, schools only partially closed down. For the most time online classes were held, then when things got better the government decided to switch to a system with half of the students physically going to school every other day. Unfortunately, this led to more covid-cases, resulting in a back and forth between online classes and “real” classes. One of the major differences was in the amount of work that we got assigned. Not only were the teachers much more generous with homework but as a student I had a lot more time to manage, and efficiently do, all the tasks. This might seem like a big advantage for everyone, but the actual online meetings were much more stressful than I could’ve ever imagined. Over time, however, things changed. Teachers ...

The status of our environment is getting worse and worse!

Don’t you think our environment is in big trouble? Because I do! There is this huge hole in the ozone layer which has to close again for example. But this only works if we finally decide to do something for it. Planting trees would be optimal. But this hole isn’t our only problem. There are many other problems like the pollution of oceans and seas. Many fishes are dying because of that. But the list of bad things doesn’t stop here. There are many other disasters we have to do something about as well. To fix those things we need every help we can get. So why don’t you or your school contribute something good for the environment? For example, by going to demonstrations. Starting an environmental-protection school project would also be a great idea. There are many other options to do something good for nature as long as something changes. Even if you only start separating waste. But to start helping the environment people have to know what they can do about it. Therefore, it would b...

No education because of Covid19?

The last year was very difficult for many students in Austria. Why? Covid19 didn’t just change the way we shop, but also the way we go to school. In this year, the school system changed significantly. To illustrate this point, distance learning was established and the students only went to school for short periods of time. The whole class was in school for a very short time and from then on, distance learning and shift operation shaped the school year. But this time didn’t cost us a year of education, as many people might claim. Because of these new systems, students have learned many new skills. They worked with computers on a regular basis, organised themselves and even learned new topics on their own. This was a time where students developed a lot of new abilities which they wouldn’t have gained in a normal year. In my opinion, this year didn’t cost us a year of education. In fact, I believe this unique time was a very educational one for the students. For instance, the comput...
