Corona what else?

Are you also a student right now who is struggling with online schooling? I am! If you also feel

overwhelmed and exhausted regarding Corona, then you are in the right place.

Since February 2020 everything has changed. It all started mid of March with a lock-down. From one day to the other schools were closed and the so called “distance learning” started. Which sounded exciting at first glance turned out to be a disaster. Neither the ministry of education, nor the teachers nor the pupils were prepared for such a form of teaching. We all were confronted with a lack of nearly everything: end devices, standardized teaching platforms, regular online lessons and last but not least we missed our friends and even our teachers . School year ended after having four weeks of teaching in shifts and started after two months of open school again with closed schools and distance learning – until yesterday

Even if Austrian students haven’t learned as much about the different subject matters as compared to

the years before, the Corona crisis gave us some particular skills which we otherwise probably wouldn’t have learned. For example, we learned, among others, among others self-organization, digital skills, self-motivation, or interdisciplinary works. And we survived staying at home for months and living with our parents on a 24/7 basis.

It is often said that we, as the Corona generation, are a lost generation. What do you think? I wouldn’t say so. We are strong, we learned a lot, we showed a high degree of solidarity and we will return to our normal lives in the next weeks.

  1. Hey, I was really moved by your blog post. In my opinion you are completely right with all your statements. To be honest, I also missed my friends, colleagues and teachers and I am happy that we all are returning to our normal lives now. Schools are open again and we do not have to wear this horrible mask in the class. It is just fantastic! I cannot avoid saying that I really hated to wear the FFP-2 mask 6 hours and sometimes even 8 hours a day. Furthermore, we are of course not a lost generation. As you have already said, we learned a lot and showed a high degree of solidarity, so it would be insane to say such a rubbish; that is just not true. :-)

  2. Hi, i have just read your BLOG POST and your opinion about the corona virus. You have great approaches and a very good vocabulary. I can only agree with this ideas. This and the last year were hard for everyone, and especially for the people, who are technically talented. I am so glad that the vaccinations are going to make our lives easier again. Make sure you enjoy this. I also like your style of writing! Keep up the good work!

The status of our environment is getting worse and worse!

Don’t you think our environment is in big trouble? Because I do! There is this huge hole in the ozone layer which has to close again for example. But this only works if we finally decide to do something for it. Planting trees would be optimal. But this hole isn’t our only problem. There are many other problems like the pollution of oceans and seas. Many fishes are dying because of that. But the list of bad things doesn’t stop here. There are many other disasters we have to do something about as well. To fix those things we need every help we can get. So why don’t you or your school contribute something good for the environment? For example, by going to demonstrations. Starting an environmental-protection school project would also be a great idea. There are many other options to do something good for nature as long as something changes. Even if you only start separating waste. But to start helping the environment people have to know what they can do about it. Therefore, it would b...

Parents Information

Dear Parents of the Wenzgasse, in our English Elective course, we are currently working on an online portal that is allowing students to exchange their habits of learning for tests and how they help them. We also want to publish weekly tips that can be used to increase your learning abilities in different ways, for example on concentration and receptivity.    Our goal is to write a blog by Austrian high school students that have all experienced the difficulties of learning correctly. We think our tips that focuses lesson study mater and more on advice on how to learn can help a wide range of students, especially since they emphasise modern education. Now you will certainly ask yourself from where we get our information and how we want to educate ourselves.  First and foremost, we try to draw our information from our close interaction with the students of Wenzgasse. Furthermore, we inform ourselves daily via the media if there are new methods that can help us with our topi...
